Testimony from our supporting exhibitors to come... |
President's Address
The first Sidney Dive Expo was designed to generate interest and excitement for the local SCUBA Diving and Marine Adventure industry. Initial feedback suggests that we accomplished this goal and we cannot wait to build on this success for next year.
While there were fabulous retail opportunities, we wanted to focus on experience and hospitality. Highlights of the event included our very special guest speakers, free introductions to SCUBA, opportunity to dive with local charter operators, and the midway of progressive dive companies: there was something for everyone.
We had an estimated 500 people attend the show over the weekend, each of them leaving with a smile in appreciation of the experience our professional exhibitors and volunteers provided.
- Our guest speaker’s presentations generated much talk, especially with standing room only on Sunday.
- 43 kids and adults came to try PADI Bubblemakers or Discover SCUBA at the Travelodge pool.
- 70 silver ticket holders came to the Charles Dickens after the show on Saturday night for our dinner party and prize give away. To name a few prizes, an Aqualung regulator was happily accepted and the grand prize was complete Nexus III drysuit suit package from Whites Mfg.
- We raised $120 for the Artificial Reef Society of B.C. with the 50/50 raffle.
- As important members of the diving and marine adventure community, exhibitors had the invaluable opportunity to converse with their peers in a progressive setting.
- We had fun!
The first annual Sidney Dive Expo demonstrated the enormous potential that exists for the diving community on Lower Vancouver Island, and especially in Sidney. It set a foundation for years to come and was an event for divers and non divers alike with the intention to inspire and motivate.
As organizers we would like to thank all the volunteers that worked so hard to help set up and run the show, all the companies that took a chance and helped make the show so complete, and our guests that came from as far away as Oregon and Ontario. Also, a special thanks to the Sidney Volunteer Fire Department, who came out to assist us in filling the demonstration dive tank!
I would also like say that my wife and I had a lot of fun putting this show on. It was a blast and we can’t wait to see you all again next year.
Sincerely,
Dan Bauer
